Situated in the idyllic market town centre of Mere, located 2 minutes drive off the A303, the George Inn is well known for its warm hospitality, quality bed and breakfast accommodation and excellent food offer.
Our delightful pub is the oldest in Mere and dates back to the 16th Century, boasting a remarkable history. According to local records, in 1651 King Charles II stayed here on his way from Trent to Heale house whilst fleeing after his defeat at the Battle of Worcester. Today, The George Inn retains its rustic charm with cosy seating, a relaxed dining area and an impressive log fire for guests to enjoy.

Lee has recently taken over the George Inn and is looking forward to welcoming everyone soon.
A true Irish story, Lee went to New York with 19 dollars in his pocket, and managed to get a job in just 3 hours. He stayed in New York for 13 years, working back of house, front of house and realising a passion for cooking.
Community, communication and comfort are the values that Lee lives by, and those are the things you will find at The George Inn, Mere.
Lee wants to change hospitality for the better having worked as a chef in New York, London and Barcelona and you'll feel part of the family with him at The George.
He likes to serve traditional, quality, simple foods, for a fair price, sourced as fresh as possible.

We pride ourselves on serving locally sourced food, prepared fresh to order where possible. That’s why we’ve developed a range of menus to suit all tastes. From our extensive main menu, including pub classics and sharing platters, to vegetarian and vegan dishes through to our daily-changing specials board. We’ve got everything covered from lunch to dinner and of course on Sundays, a selection of mouth-watering roasts specials.
